Ages 5–6
Pre-Primary Ballet
The first level of the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. Children begin to work with real ballet vocabulary and learn what it means to take a class rather than play at one.
What happens in class
- The RAD Pre-Primary in Dance syllabus, taught over the year.
- Correct posture, turnout and the five positions introduced properly.
- Simple set exercises repeated until they are secure, not merely familiar.
- An introduction to performing — facing front, finishing a step, holding a pose.
Where it leads
From here students move to Primary and then into the graded syllabus, where examinations become an option.
